UNICAF UNIVERSITY ZIMBABWE GIVES BACK TO THE COMMUNITY WITH FREE WORKSHOPS
Unicaf University Zimbabwe presented a free CV and Cover Letter Writing workshop on the 17th of January at its campus in Harare. This was the second free workshop organised by the University as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility Programme, which focuses on giving back to the communities it serves. By teaching individuals how to present their qualifications and talents effectively in their CVs and write impressive cover letters to potential employers, the University aims to help recent graduates and other citizens find employment, or secure a promotion. The overwhelming response from people of all ages and educational backgrounds, led the University to run an additional afternoon session of the workshop.
Almost 200 men and women, ranging from recent high school leavers to university students and graduates, working and unemployed professionals, even pensioners attended the workshop; they were all eager to learn how to make a strong impression to employers and get the job. Business owners and managers also attended the workshop to learn what to look out for in the CVs of people they recruit.
The sessions began with Diana Varaidzo Mwarazi, Business Development and Marketing Manager, who welcomed participants and introduced Pro Vice Chancellor Dr Cuthbert A. T. Katsvanga. Three of the University’s marketing officers led the workshop: Douglas Mahere, Juliet Alexandra Musendekwa and Tinotenda Mitchell Manjengwa.
Both sessions were interactive, with a high level of engagement from participants, who placed questions after each presentation, asking whether to include volunteer work in a CV, how many referees to add and if a cover letter is always necessary and so on. Participants had the opportunity to tour the campus facilities and learn about the Bachelor, Master’s and Doctoral degrees offered through online study and the Unicaf Scholarship Programme, which makes studying with Unicaf University affordable and flexible for working professionals. Unicaf University is planning to have more free workshops soon. Dates and details will be published in Unicaf University’s social media.
